Brady to appear in front of judge for settlement hearing
The Sports Xchange
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will appear in front of U.S. District Judge Richard Berman in New York on Aug. 12 during a settlement hearing related to his NFL-issued suspension, multiple media outlets reported Monday.
Last week, Berman ordered both Brady and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to appear at the hearing. After initial reports Monday that Brady wanted to participate via phone, numerous media outlets later confirmed that Brady would be at the hearing in person.
The meeting comes the day before the Patriots open their preseason with a home game against the Green Bay Packers.
Berman has another hearing in the case scheduled for Aug. 19.
Both the NFL and the NFL Players Association requested that a resolution be expedited ahead of the Patriots’ season opener on Sept. 10.
Brady was handed a four-game suspension after the NFL ruled it more probable than not that he was involved in a scheme to deflate the footballs used in the AFC Championship Game in January. Goodell upheld the suspension upon appeal, and the union is fighting his ruling.
