Bob Sutton Says “You’d Be Crazy” Not To Want Eric Berry

Find out if Chiefs defensive coordinator Bob Sutton wants Eric Berry back.

When it comes to leadership, there aren’t too many players who come to mind before Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry. The fact Berry defeated cancer and is still playing at an All-Pro level is simply remarkable.

With Berry set to hit the open market, there’s some doubt if he’ll be able to come to terms to a long-term agreement with the Chiefs.

Defensive coordinator Bob Sutton was asked if he wants to see Berry back.

“Oh yeah, definitely yeah. That’s out of my wheelhouse but I mean, you’d be crazy not to (want him back),” Sutton told me this week. “I thought he had an MVP-type season. He was a dynamic force. Physically, taking the ball away. his coverage. I don’t know how much more you could do. This guy had an impact on our entire team. Not just our defense, but our entire team. That’s a trait that is hard to put a value on. You can’t quantify it but you know it’s there.”

Berry totaled four interceptions, nine passes defended, one forced fumble and two touchdowns this past season.
