Bills release QB Cassel
The Sports Xchange
The Buffalo Bills released quarterback Matt Cassel on Saturday, among five roster cuts.
Cassel started the first preseason game of the year and was considered the early favorite to start ahead of Tyrod Taylor and E.J. Manuel. However, it appears the Bills will keep just Taylor and Manuel on the roster.
The Bills paid Cassel a $500,000 roster bonus but avoided paying him a $4.15 million base salary for the season, according to Pro Football Talk.
Buffalo also parted with defensive tackle Red Bryant, center Dalton Freeman, safety Jonathan Meeks and linebacker Kevin Reddick.
