Bills RB McCoy expected back for opener

Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy, despite injuring his hamstring, is expected to be ready for the season opener against the Indianapolis Colts, according to reports Wednesday.

McCoy strained his hamstring during Tuesday evening’s joint practice with the Cleveland Browns. He limped off the field during the session and was set to undergo an MRI to determine its extent.

“Not going to say it is a pull, we will find out what it is,” Bills coach Rex Ryan said Tuesday night. “The trainer said the hamstring is intact it is not off the bone, so that is a real positive. But we are getting a MRI on it to see the extent of it. Hopefully, it is not a pull, just a strain.”

McCoy suffered the injury while going through non-contact, seven-on-seven drills.

McCoy, 27, is the Bills’ top offseason acquisition and owner of a reworked contract that will pay him $16 million this year. He rushed for 1,319 yards and five touchdowns last season for the Philadelphia Eagles, who traded him to Buffalo.

The Bills were already without running backs Fred Jackson (hamstring), Boobie Dixon (calf), Bryce Brown (hamstring) and Karlos Williams (hospitalized/undisclosed) for Tuesday’s practice.

Williams is out multiple weeks after undergoing what Ryan called a “sensitive” procedure.
