Bills LB Enemkpali facing suspension

Bills practice squad linebacker IK Enemkpali is facing a suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy when he punched and broke the jaw of New York Jets starting quarterback Geno Smith.

Enemkpali was released by the Jets after decking Smith, over a $600 debt Smith owed as travel reimbursement to a football camp, and signed with the Buffalo Bills the next day to join coach Rex Ryan. Ryan coached the Jets last season when Enemkpali was drafted in the sixth round.

The Bills cut Enemkpali but re-signed him to the practice squad last week.

NFL Network reported Thursday that Enemkpali will appeal the suspension, which could be “a 4-6 game ban.”

Smith said last week he would not press charges. The punch landed Smith in the operating room and pushed Ryan Fitzpatrick into the starting spot. Smith could be back in the first week of October but his weight is being watched closely.
