Bills add Kromer, Lee to coaching staff

Published

on

The Buffalo Bills hired former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer to be the team’s offensive line coach, according to reports Saturday.

Bills head coach Rex Ryan continues to build his new staff, reportedly also adding David Lee as quarterbacks coach.

Kromer spent the last two seasons as the offensive coordinator in Chicago. The Bears ranked 15th in passing yards (237.0) and 27th in rushing yards (90.1) last season.

Kromer’s tenure in Chicago was most notable for his admission that he had been the source of anonymous quotes criticizing Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. Kromer later made a tearful apology in front of the team and Cutler.

Kromer admitted he criticized Cutler to an NFL Network reporter on Dec. 4 after the Bears’ fifth loss in seven games, and those comments led to a report that the organization was feeling “buyer’s remorse” after signing the quarterback to a seven-year, $126.7 million contract that includes $54 million guaranteed.

Kromer also offensive line coach for the New Orleans Saints from 2009 to 2012.

Lee spent 2012 as quarterbacks coach with the Bills and the last two seasons coaching the quarterbacks under Ryan with the Jets.

Ryan earlier named Greg Roman as offensive coordinator and Dennis Thurman as defensive coordinator.

Tony Sparano Jr. will handle tight ends, Bobby April is the new linebackers coach, Karl Dunbar will coach the defensive line, Tim McDonald will join holdover Donnie Henderson as secondary coaches, Jason Oszvart will be the strength and conditioning assistant, Jeff Weeks will serve as a defensive line assistant and Eric Smith will be a special teams assistant.
