Bengals Select Cedric Ogbuehi With 21st Pick- Full Analysis

The Cincinnati Bengals reinforced their right tackle position as they selected former Texas A & M Aggie, Cedric Ogbuehi.

“This is the second huge first-round reach for an offensive tackle as Ogbuehi is very raw and has slow feet.  Andrew Whitworth will be 34 years old an this is obviously a pick for next year.”- Charlie Bernstein

“I had the player right … only the round is wrong. In our recent two-round mock draft, I had the Bengals stealing Ogbuehi in the second round. In the real world, Cincinnati was not willing to gamble on him falling that far. Instead, the Bengals grab one of the most polished tackle prospects in the draft. Given that starting LT Andrew Whitworth is the oldest left tackle in the league (34) and entering the final season of his contract, this selection makes perfect sense. Plus, you can never have too many mauler-types when you play in the AFC North.”- Michael Lombardo

“Cedric Ogbuehi may be the most fundamentally sound tackle in the draft, but he suffered an ACL injury in Texas A&M’s bowl game. Ogbuehi needs to get stronger to compete at the NFL level, but he’s going to have time to grow into his role with the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals have done a nice job in recent drafts, and it would be no surprise to look back in a couple of years and wonder how they landed Ogbuehi this late in the first-round.”- Pat Donovan

“A knee injury had many thinking Cedric Ogbuehi would slip into the second or third round, but Cincinnati took him about where he might have been found prior to that. Still, this is proof to be that teams are treating La’El Collins as toxic right now. Who is more willing to take chances on a guy than the Bengals?” – Alex Hickey

“This is an odd one for me because while I like the player, the Bengals have some major needs all over the defense and could’ve also added a top tier receiver. This doesn’t address a need and that goes beyond Cedric Ogbuehi being injured. When he’s healthy, Ogbuehi is an elite tackle, especially against the run, which bodes well for the combo of Jeremy Hill and Giovani Bernard. But Cincinnati is set at the moment at tackle and though both their bookends are in contract years, I don’t think Ogbuehi will have the time coming back from injury to show that they should let one of them walk. Puzzling pick all around.” – Devon Jeffreys
