Bengals RT Smith, Browns S Gipson lost to injuries

Published

on

Cincinnnati Bengals right tackle Andre Smith left Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans with a torn triceps. The injury could end his season.

Smith was injured with the Bengals ahead 9-0 and replaced by Marshall Newhouse.

An MRI exam will tell the story of the rest of Smith’s season. If tendon damage is detected, Smith would require surgery and face months of rehab.

If there is no tendon damage, Smith could return in 8-10 weeks, which means he could potentially play in the postseason.

Cleveland Browns standout safety Tashaun Gipson was carted off the Georgia Dome field in the third quarter with a right knee injury. Gipson collided with teammate Joe Haden — who was also slow to get to his feet but trotted off the field — in the endzone. Running back Steven Jackson scored a 1-yard touchdown on the play.

Chicago Bears weak-side linebacker Lance Briggs (groin) was hurt in the first half and declared out at rain-soaked Soldier Field, where Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins (back) was also hurt.
