The Cincinnati Bengals terminated the contract of quarterback Josh Johnson and waived college free agents Erick Dargan and Kalafitoni Pole on Tuesday.

Johnson was released to free agency. The seventh-year player returned to the Bengals in April as an unrestricted free agent after serving as the team’s backup quarterback in 2013.

Johnson played in the Bengals’ preseason opener, completing 11 of 21 passes for 175 yards, but did not see action in Monday night’s exhibition against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The 29-year-old Johnson began his career with the Buccaneers in 2008 and started five games for Tampa Bay in four seasons. He then spent a year each wth the Cleveland Browns, Bengals and San Francisco 49ers. He did not get into a game last year with the 49ers.

In seven NFL seasons, Johnson has completed 96 of 177 passes for 1,042 yards and five touchdowns with 10 interceptions.

Dargan is a safety from Oregon and a Pole a defensive tackle form Washington State. Dargan played in the Bengals’ two preseason games and Pole was used against the Buccaneers.
