Bengals announce signing four, including Hawk

The Cincinnati Bengals announced Wednesday that they re-signed guard Clint Boling and offensive tackle Eric Winston and signed free agent linebacker A.J. Hawk.

The Bengals also re-signed cornerback Chris Lewis-Harris, who had been tendered by the club as an exclusive rights free agent.

“It’s a good day for us, a big day, and I compliment our front office for getting these deals done,” said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis in a statement released by the team. “It’s a continuation of the building process to keep getting better, the plan to retain the core players who have gotten us to the playoffs and add new talent in the right spots. As for our new guy, A.J. (Hawk), he has been productive for a long time at the highest level, and we think he can fit for us at all three of our linebacker positions.”

Hawk is returning to his home state after reaching agreement on a two-year contract with Cincinnati. He is a Centerville, Ohio, native who starred at Ohio State.

Hawk, 31, spent nine seasons with the Green Bay Packers, who chose not to re-sign their No. 5 overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft after last season in order to save $3.5 million against the salary cap.

Hawk, who had surgery to remove bone spurs from an ankle in the offseason, will join a linebacking group in Cincinnati that includes Rey Maualuga, Emmanuel Lamur and Vontaze Burfict.

Boling and Winston were both unrestricted free agents. Boling, 25, started all 16 games for Cincinnati in 2014 and has started 47 of a possible 64 games in his four seasons with the team.

Winston, the NFLPA president, played four games with the Bengals last season after starter Andre Smith was injured. He has 121 career starts.
