Bears DT Ratliff suspended three games
The Sports Xchange
Chicago Bears defensive tackle Jeremiah Ratliff was suspended without pay for the first three games of the regular season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
The suspension announced by the league Monday stems from Ratliff pleading guilty in April to a DWI charge in 2013.
Ratliff, 33, will be eligible to return to the Bears’ active roster on Monday, Sept. 28, following the team’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Ratliff was with the Dallas Cowboys when he was arrested in Grapevine, Texas, in the early morning hours of Jan. 22, 2013. He crashed his pickup truck into an 18-wheeler. According to police, tests determined that Ratliff’s blood-alcohol level was .16 — more than twice the legal limit.
Ratliff was a four-time Pro Bowl selection with the Cowboys. He had 6.5 sacks for the Bears last season.
Ratliff spent nine seasons with the Cowboys from 2005-13. Since joining the Bears midway through the 2013 season, he has appeared in 16 games (15 starts), recording 46 tackles and eight sacks.
Ratliff is eligible to participate in all preseason practices and games.
