Backup QB, charged with DUI, leaves Miami
Backup quarterback Kevin Olsen left the University of Miami on Tuesday, a day after he was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and possession of a stolen driver’s license.
The university issued a press release that read: “Kevin Olsen is no longer a student at the University of Miami. We wish him the very best in the future.”
“Right now, this is about Kevin and his family and we need to respect that,” Hurricanes coach Al Golden said, according to the Miami Herald. “He needs this time to look at himself and move forward, and I have no doubt that with the support of his family, his brothers, his mom and dad, and obviously those of us that know him really well, there’s no question that he’s going to have the right ending. … He’s going to win in the end.”
Olsen, who was a redshirt freshman, never got into a game for Miami. The 19-year-old brother of Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen, Kevin Olsen was a highly regarded recruit out of Wayne Hills High School in Wayne, N.J.
According to NJ.com, Kevin Olsen faced charged multiple criminal charges in Wayne last year following an incident when his car allegedly hit a tree and another vehicle. Olsen was accused of fleeing the scene and careless driving.
