Backup backs say they’re ready if Murray can’t go

IRVING, Tex. – Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray underwent surgery to repair a fractured bone in his left hand on Monday. He wore a cast on his hand on Tuesday and was on the practice field Wednesday trying to see if he can play in Sunday’s game against the Colts.

It will likely be a game-time decision. Murray had a plate and eight screws put in his hand. He will try to go with a glove and protective padding.

“I think you’ve all seen how special DeMarco is as a player. He’s had a great season,” quarterback Tony Romo said. “I think he’s going to do everything he can to play. We’re just going to do what we do and go from there.”

If Murray can’t go, backups Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar are ready for a bigger load. Randle took snaps with the first-team offense on Wednesday.

“I feel like I can get the job done,” Randle said. “If they ask me to do that, next man up. I don’t want to let the team down. I know this is a huge game for our season, so I’m going to go out there and be fully ready to go.”

Randle has 34 carries for 237 yards and two touchdowns. Dunbar has 91 yards on 26 carries.

“I’m very confident,” Dunbar said. “The O-line does a great job blocking. The receivers block. And the runners run. I believe in the guys up front. I believe in the other backs. I believe in our team and our coaches that we can still get the job done.”
