Atlanta’s new stadium to feature circular video board

Published

on

The new downtown Atlanta stadium scheduled to open in 2017 will include a unique circular LED video display.

A “halo” board will measure approximately 63,800 square feet, which at five stories high is three times larger than any current display board in the NFL, and is the first of its kind worldwide to be used in a stadium, the Falcons said Friday.

“The LED video halo board Daktronics is building for the new Atlanta stadium is a game changer in every way,” Falcons president and CEO Rich McKay said. “Our goal at the outset was to reimagine the stadium experience, and the halo board is consistent with this vision.

“It’s a display that has never been created before with the latest technology, and we are thrilled that Daktronics is helping us to deliver this unique experience to our fans and guests.”

The retractable-roof stadium will be home to the Falcons, Atlanta’s new Major League Soccer franchise and other sports and entertainment events. The board will be located above the center of the field with a circumference of about 58 feet by 1,100 feet.

Multiple sections on the board will include HD video, instant replay, scoring, statistics, graphics, animations and other game information. Additional LED boards around the stadium include another 20,000 square feet.

“This ‘halo’ display is really a test of engineering capabilities and architecture coordination that our team at Daktronics is proud to accomplish,” said Daktronics CEO Reece Kurtenbach, whose company makes the board. “Installing such a non-traditional display shows our depth and capabilities as a company beyond common rectangle shapes as we strive to provide our customers with complete solutions, no matter what their aspirations may be for their video displays and overall fan experience at their venue.”
