As Steelers report, Bell awaits word on suspension
The Sports Xchange
As the Pittsburgh Steelers reported to training camp Saturday in Latrobe, Pa., running back Le’Veon Bell said he’s still waiting to hear from the NFL about his appeal of his three-game suspension.
Bell was suspended as punishment for a marijuana/DUI arrest in August 2014. He received 15 months’ probation in February.
If his suspension stands, Bell will miss the season opener Sept. 10 against the New England Patriots and games against the San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams.
While Bell is trying to reduce the suspension, he is ready to accept the final decision — whatever it is.
“I want to make sure I do everything in my power to be a better teammate and player,” Bell said. “Whatever the consequence is, I’ll take it. … You have to take the good with the bad.”
Bell was the NFL’s No. 2 rusher in 2014, with 1,361 yards. He also caught 83 passes and scored 11 touchdowns.
With Bell out, veteran addition DeAngelo Williams figures to carry the load. Dri Archer, a third-round pick in 2014, is behind him.
In other news Saturday, five Steelers started camp on the list for the physically unable to perform: offensive tackle Mike Adams (back), quarterback Bruce Gradkowski (shoulder), cornerback Senquez Golson (shoulder), linebacker Shawn Lemon (Achilles) and center Maurkice Pouncey (foot).
Adams underwent back surgery on Monday and is out four weeks, coach Mike Tomlin said.
