Antonio Brown Breaks NFL Record
Antonio Brown passes Laveranues Coles in the record book.
Antonio Brown is breaking NFL records. The Steelers receiver broke a previous mark held by Laveranues Coles of 19 straight games with at least five catches for 50 yards. Brown moved past Coles to extend the new record to 20 straight games. Brown had seven catches for 131 yards and two touchdowns against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in the Steelers’ heartbreaking 27-24 home loss.
With seven seconds remaining on the clock, Tampa Bay quarterback Mike Glennon connected with Vincent Jackson for five yards for the go-ahead touchdown, delivering the Buccaneers’ first win of the season in come from behind fashion on the road at Heinz Field.
“Right now it’s not about records,” a disappointed and stunned Brown said postgame. “It’s all about winning, playing Steelers football and getting victories. The record is great, but it means nothing. We lost. Our business is winning.”
Brown’s streak began week one in 2013, accumulating 139 catches for 1,926 yards and 10 touchdowns since then.
Only three players drafted in the sixth round since the NFL/AFL merger reached 1,000 yards. The previous two were Terance Mathis in 1990 and Michael Jackson in 1991. Brown and Mathis are the only two to duplicate the total more than once. Mathis played 13 years in the NFL, reaching the 1,000 mark a record four times.
Brown is quietly becoming the best receiver ever selected in the sixth round of the NFL Draft.
