Anthony Lynn Explains Why He’s Starting EJ Manuel
Find out why the Bills are starting EJ Manuel.
Less than 24 hours after Rex Ryan was canned, interim head coach Anthony Lynn has already made a major ‘business decision’. There’s no secret the amount of criticism starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor endured throughout the course of the season, which is why Lynn has elected to give EJ Manuel a shot this Sunday against the Jets.
With the postseason out the picture, it makes sense for Buffalo to give Manuel another opportunity to prove himself. The former Florida State standout hasn’t started under center since Week 7 of last season.
“We’re going to look at the depth of our quarterback position, and we’re out of the playoffs,” said Lynn. “So we want to see what these other two guys can do. I’m fine with EJ Manuel starting the game. For me it’s always the next man up. If Tyrod Taylor pulled a hamstring we’d be going with EJ, so that’s kind of my approach.”
Considering Manuel is set to hit free agency in the offseason, this is a golden opportunity for him to showcase himself to teams across the league.
