Ankle injuries drop Lions WR Johnson, RB Bush

Published

on

DETROIT — Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson aggravated an existing ankle injury on his only catch of the game Sunday, and he’ll have company in the exam room Monday.

Johnson caught one pass in a 17-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills and head coach Jim Caldwell said he had to leave the game because “he took a pretty good hit” to the ankle. Johnson, who missed multiple practices for the second consecutive week and has only three receptions for 19 yards the past two games, attempted to walk off the pain but was not able to come back for the Lions.

He was joined on the sideline by running back Reggie Bush, who also suffered an ankle injury. Without Bush and Joique Bell (concussion), who was inactive, the Lions got little out of their running game and quarterback Matt Stafford was sacked six times.

Bush was held to 13 yards on six carries before exiting with an ankle injury during the second half.

George Winn, promoted from the practice squad Tuesday, averaged 4.4 yards per carry with 11 rushes for 48 yards.
