When Tyreke Hill was selected in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, not much was thought of it at the time. However, during the middle of the season, everything completely changed for Kansas City’s offense.

From Week 9 through the playoffs, Hill averaged 38.9 plays per game compared to 33.3 plays per game during the regular season. Hill hauled in 61 catches for 593 yards.

Also, the rookie rushed for 267 yards on only 24 carries, which is a ridiculous average of 11.1 yards per carry. In total, Hill reached the end zone 12 times, including two punt returns and one kick return for a touchdown.

Moving forward, head coach Andy Reid knows Hill must receive more opportunities.

“He was averaging 35 plays a game (in 2016),” Reid said. “Maybe he can double that or at least take it up a couple notches and allow him to get in more in a starting role.”

“We use him a lot on special teams obviously,” Reid stated. “When he came to us, that’s what we originally thought we had. He then said, ‘Listen I can do this offensive thing.’ He’s innately a smart kid. We kept adding to it and he got it.

“I’d expect him to learn that whole (playbook) by the end of all the OTAs and training camp and then be even more of a threat.”

Even when Hill doesn’t touch the ball, he opens things up for Alex Smith and company because opposing defenses are so fearful of his jaw-dropping 4.2 speed.
