Adrian Peterson facing arrest on pot charge

Published

on

Montgomery County (Texas) prosecutors filed documents Thursday to have suspended Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson arrested on charges that he smoked marijuana — a violation of his bond conditions.

According to court records, Peterson on Wednesday admitted to an employee overseeing a court-ordered drug test that he “smoked a little weed” before the test.

The judge has yet to issue a ruling, and probably will not until after his recusal hearing is completed. That hearing is scheduled for Friday morning.

Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon filed a motion asking Judge Kelly Case to recuse himself after the judge called each lead attorney in the case a “media whore.” Case apologized, saying the comment was meant as a joke.

A trial date has been scheduled for Dec. 1. Peterson is facing a felony charge of child abuse after using a wooden switch to discipline his 4-year-old son earlier this year.

Perterson’s attorney, Rusty Hardin, previously said his client is “chomping at the bit” to defend himself publicly.

Hardin had yet to comment on Thursday’s newest allegations.
