49ers sticking with Kaepernick

Despite a 2-5 record and a dismal offensive performance in Thursday’s 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Tomsula said Friday he is sticking with Colin Kaepernick as his quarterback.

Immediately after the game, Tomsula said his team’s performance “not acceptable.”

Apparently he does not believe that his quarterback is the problem.

“Colin’s our quarterback,” Tomsula said Friday. “No controversy.”

CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco had heard talk in that “something big could happen,” leading to speculation that a change at the quarterback position was possible.

That is not the case, at least not yet, keeping Blaine Gabbert in the role of backup quarterback.

The 49ers had only 142 total yards and eight first downs in Thursday’s game and scored no touchdowns. Kaepernick was sacked six times while completing 13 of 24 passes for 124 yards and a 68.4 passer rating.

Kaepernick had swelling in his right thumb and had it bandaged after the game. He said it was not broken, however.
