49ers sign S Ventrone, release QB Johnson
The San Francisco 49ers signed safety and special teams player Bubba Ventrone to a one-year deal Friday.
To make room on the roster, the team released quarterback Josh Johnson, who was signed Tuesday.
The 49ers signed Ventrone last week but then cut him Tuesday.
The 5-foot-10, 200-pound Ventrone, a nine-year NFL veteran, played in all 16 games and three postseason contests with the 49ers in 2013. He registered 15 special teams tackles and recovered a fumble last season.
Johnson now has been released four times by the 49ers since August 2012.
