49ers promote TE Cleveland from practice squad
The San Francisco 49ers promoted tight end Asante Cleveland from the team’s practice squad to the active roster Saturday.
To make room for Cleveland on the 53-man roster, the 49ers released quarterback Josh Johnson.
Cleveland, who is 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds, was originally signed by the 49ers as an undrafted free agent on May 12. He was waived on Aug. 30, before being signed to the team’s practice squad the next day.
Cleveland had 14 catches for 151 yards with one touchdown in 40 games (10 starts) with the University of Miami.
Johnson signed with the 49ers on May 14. He was inactive for each of the 49ers first two games of this season.
