49ers lose S Bethea for season
The Sports Xchange
The San Francisco 49ers placed safety Antoine Bethea on the injured reverse list and activated receiver Jerome Simpson to the roster, the club announced Friday.
Bethea suffered a serious shoulder injury in Thursday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks. The 10-year veteran was injured while making a tackle attempt on Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin.
Simpson is available to play for the first time this season after serving a six-game suspension for a violation of the league’s substance-abuse policy. He hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2013.
Simpson, who has 145 career receptions, has been arrested three times since Jan. 2012. He was suspended by the NFL in relation to an arrest in July 2014, when he was cited on misdemeanor chargers for having marijuana and an open bottle in his car while driving with a restricted license.
