49ers’ Harbaugh: ‘I don’t worry about my future’

Published

on

Amid reports that he could be sent packing if the San Francisco 49ers don’t make the playoffs, coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday that he is not concerned.

“I don’t worry about my future,” he said. “I haven’t participated in any of that speculation. I think I have a recessive gene for worrying about my own future.”

Speculation has been rampant recently that Harbaugh, who has one year left on his contract, could be traded after this season — much as Jon Gruden and Mike Holmgren once were.

It’s not the first time the controversial coach has been mentioned in trade talk: In February, the Cleveland Browns reportedly considered making a deal for him.

But, in the wake of a 19-3 loss to the NFC West rival Seattle Seahawks on Thanksgiving, Harbaugh said Monday, “It’s our job to move on without excuse, without apology and get it right. Make it right. That’s our intentions.”

The 49ers, sitting on the edge of the playoff chase at 7-5, still have games left at Seattle, home vs. San Diego and home vs. Arizona. On Sunday, they play at Oakland — one of the teams mentioned as a possible destination for Harbaugh next year.
