49ers acquire LB Hodges in trade with Vikings

The San Francisco 49ers acquired linebacker Gerald Hodges from the Minnesota Vikings in a trade that sent center Nick Easton and a sixth-round draft pick to the Vikings, the teams announced Tuesday.

Hodges started three of the first four games for Minnesota this season and made 20 tackles. According to ESPN.com, the Vikings like what they have seen from linebacker Eric Kendricks, making Hodges expendable.

Hodges, a middle linebacker for the Vikings, joins the 49ers’ inside linebacking group of Navorro Bowman, Michael Wilhoite, Shayne Skov and Nick Bellore.

Minnesota starting center John Sullivan is on injured reserve with a herniated disk in his back, and it is unclear when or if he will return this season. Joe Berger started the first four games at center, and Easton gives the Vikings some depth at the position.

Easton, an undrafted player out of Harvard, was signed by the Baltimore Ravens and traded to the 49ers.
