4 Players That Should’ve Been Traded

See which players should’ve been traded at the NFL trade deadline.

The NFL trade deadline has come and gone.

Unlike other professional sports such as basketball and baseball, the NFL trade deadline doesn’t generate much movement and this year was no different. The only trade of significance to the casual fan was Vernon Davis to Denver.

It’s evident Peyton Manning isn’t the same anymore, but with Davis in the fold, the future Hall of Famer’s fortunes may begin to change.

Before we fully move on from the trade deadline, let’s take a look at some guys who should’ve been dealt.

Cleveland Browns, OT, Joe Thomas – Before last season, Cleveland went six straight years of not winning anymore than five games.

However, last year, the Browns managed to pull off a seven-win season, which gave fans hope heading into this year. Unfortunately, the team has reverted back to their old ways.

As the trade deadline neared, there was tons of speculation of eight-time Pro Bowler, Joe Thomas, potentially being dealt to Denver.

Thomas claims he’s glad it didn’t go through.

“Certainly I would have been really crushed being traded and leaving all these guys that you work so hard with and all these coaches and the people that are in this building and these fans, all the things that I’ve worked for since I’ve got here, the goals I have currently,” Thomas stated. “But in the end, it’s a business. The greatest players in history get cut, get traded. That’s just the way it is.”

Denver reportedly was willing to give up their 2017 first-round draft pick, a second or third round selection to go along with a fourth round pick.

Considering Thomas is 30-years old and the fact Cleveland isn’t winning anytime soon, this is a deal they should’ve cashed in on for their future.

Atlanta Falcons, WR, Roddy White- Just a month ago, everything was fine and dandy in the ‘Dirty South’.

What a difference a month makes, eh?

After starting the season off 5-0, the Falcons have lost 3 out of their last 4 games and veteran wide receiver Roddy White is still being treated like a third or fourth option.

Earlier in the season, White expressed his displeasure with his lack of touches.

“For me, at the end of the day, I want to catch passes,” White stressed. “I’m not out here just f—ing around just to sit around to just block f—ing people all day. It’s not what I want to do.

“I’ve contributed to offenses for this franchise for the last nine, 10 years. It always bothers me when I go out and don’t catch any balls in a game because it hasn’t happened in so long.”

White made those comments when Atlanta was rolling, so people just kind of swept them under the rug, but now with things getting rough, the Falcons should’ve seriously considered trading him because this could only become a bigger distraction in the locker room and if you’re not using him anyway, why not get something for him?

Chicago Bears, RB, Matt Forte – When you think about the Chicago Bears over the years, Matt Forte’s name is the one that comes to mind first.

For a team with a lot of inconsistent parts, Forte has been the lone steady piece in the ‘Windy City’ for the past seven years.

However, Chicago missed their opportunity to get something for him.

With this clearly being a rebuilding year for the Bears, there were whispers of them being willing to trade their star back, but considering his age and contract, it would’ve been difficult to get him off their hands anyway.

Forte will be entering free agency this off-season, so Chicago fans should appreciate these last few games because it may be the last time Forte is sporting a Bears uniform.

Washington Redskins, QB, Robert Griffin III – In a perfect world, the Redskins would’ve loved nothing more than to be able to get something from RG3, however, this world isn’t perfect and no one wants to deal with the embattled quarterback’s contract.

This past off-season, the Redskins picked up his fifth-year option, which is worth roughly $16.2 million. That number alone would scare any team away.
