10/19/14- NCAA Heisman Trophy Rankings

There’s been a shakeup in the Heisman rankings. Find out who we have in our Top 5.

It’s a wide open season for the Heisman Trophy. Let’s see who tops the board this week.

Heisman Rankings

1. Dak Prescott, QB, Mississippi State

Dak Prescott is still the leader in the clubhouse, ever so slightly. He can’t be penalized for a bye week but he has to keep winning football games.

2. Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon

Mariota keeps playing mistake free football and the Ducks keep winning games. He’s the best quarterback in the nation and should be the first signal caller taken in the draft. Mariota was 24 of 33, 336 yards

3. Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin

Melvin Gordon had a bye week and that coupled with Mariota’s great play has dropped him to third on our list. The advantage running backs have is that they don’t get penalized by their team’s losses.

4. Ameer Abdullah, RB, Nebraska

Ameer Abdullah had another huge game which has become expected. Abdullah gained 146 yards on 23 carries with four more touchdowns to bring his season total to 16. It’s amazing how many great running backs there are in the Big Ten.

5. Jameis Winston

I’m not sure if there’s a way that Jameis Winston can win the Heisman based on all of his off the field indiscretions, but his game against Notre Dame should at least make voters think about it. Winston has been very good this year but he’s not only competing against the rest of the field, but he’s competing against himself from last year.

Marcus Mariota has probably been the best player in the nation, but Dak Prescott plays in the SEC and he’s undefeated. That certainly carries weight. We’ll see how much Prescott falls if his team loses a game or two.
