Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, who rarely participated in offseason workouts while with the Detroit Lions, was present Monday on the first day of the Miami Dolphins’ offseason program.

Suh signed a six-year $114 million contract — $60 million guaranteed — with the Dolphins last month, making him the highest-paid defender in NFL history.

With the Lions, Suh preferred to stay home and work out with a personal trainer.

The Dolphins’ non-mandatory offseason program mostly starts with strength work during the first week. There is no on-field work from coaches for the first two weeks at the team’s Davie, Fla., facility.

Suh will earn $60 million through the first three years — surpassing the $51.8 million in guaranteed money the Houston Texans gave defensive lineman J.J. Watt as part of a six-year, $100 million deal last offseason. The overall value of Suh’s deal surpasses Watt’s contract.

Suh enjoyed the best season of his career in 2014. He had 8.5 sacks and was instrumental in the Lions having the top rushing defense in the league.

The No. 2 overall draft pick out of Nebraska in 2010, Suh has 36 career sacks and helped the Lions make two playoff appearances.
