Jets’ Revis to join Patriots at White House

It could be a little awkward, but New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis plans to join his former New England Patriots teammates next week for the traditional Super Bowl celebration at the White House.

All players from the 2014 Patriots are invited to the event, where President Obama will honor the team at the White House on Thursday.

Revis’ departure from the Patriots after the season is still being investigated by the NFL after tampering charges were filed by both teams.

Revis, who became a free agent when his option wasn’t exercised by the Patriots, agreed to a five-year, $70 million contract with the Jets.

The Patriots accused Jets owner Woody Johnson of tampering when he said at the end of the season that he would welcome Revis’ return to New York. At the time, Revis, who played with the Jets from 2007 to 2012, was under contract with the Patriots.

Then at last month’s owners meeting in Phoenix, Patriots owner Robert Kraft spoke of Revis’ departure that prompted the Jets to file their own tampering charges.

The Patriots went 12-4 last season and capped it off with a 28-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. It was the fourth Super Bowl title for coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady.
