Bucs trade S Goldson to Redskins
The Sports Xchange
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded safety Dashon Goldson to the Washington Redskins on Friday for an undisclosed selection in the 2016 NFL Draft.
According to reports, the Bucs will receive a sixth-round draft pick in 2016. Tampa Bay also sent a 2016 seventh-round pick to the Redskins in the deal.
Goldson, 30, spent his first six years in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers before signing a five-year, $41 million contract with Tampa Bay in 2013.
Goldson has played two seasons with Tampa Bay, starting all 27 games he played, totaling 151 tackles, nine passes defensed, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, one tackle for loss and one interception.
Goldson has totaled 499 tackles, three sacks, six forced fumbles and 15 interceptions in 108 career games (91 starts). Last season, he made 81 tackles in 14 games.
The Buccaneers reportedly will save $4 million in salary-cap space with the trade but are still responsible for the other $4 million, which was guaranteed.
The move is another push by Bucs to clear out any defensive players who do not work in head coach Lovie Smith’s Cover-2 scheme. The team shed safety Mark Barron in a similar fashion last October.
