Packers re-sign OT Bulaga

Published

on

Right tackle Bryan Bulaga re-signed with the Green Bay Packers, agreeing to a five-year deal worth at least $6.5 million per season.

The Packers were able to retain their top two free agents — Bulaga and wide receiver Randall Cobb — before free agency officially began on Tuesday.

Cobb’s contract calls for $10 million per season and Bulaga will be paid on par with other top tackles on the market. The Chargers re-signed King Dunlap (four year, $28 million) and the Jacksonville Jaguars gave Jermey Parnell $32.5 million on a five-year deal to leave the Dallas Cowboys.

Keeping the two core players could eventually pinch the Packers with Pro Bowl guard Josh Sitton and left tackle David Bakhtiari to hit free agency in two years.

But the cohesion established on the offensive line and beyond — the Packers’ top three wide receivers, running back Eddie Lacy and quarterback Aaron Rodgers all are signed through 2016 — underlines the typical mission of Packers general manager Ted Thompson: develop and retain your own talent.
