RB Johnson wounded in drive-by shooting

Published

on

Running back Chris Johnson was shot in the shoulder in a drive-by shooting Sunday morning in Orlando, Fla., that left one man dead and another injured, according to reports.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that the shooting took place at about 4:09 a.m. Deputies responded to a shooting call and arrived to find a Jeep with the driver dead inside and two other men with gunshot wounds on the sidewalk, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

According to deputies, Johnson and another man said that an unknown vehicle pulled up beside them at the red light and opened fire into the Jeep. Johnson and the other man were taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Johnson, an Orlando native, played this past season with the New York Jets. The Jets last month declined to exercise an option to retain Johnson, who signed a two-year, $8 million contract after being released by the Tennessee Titans last year.

Johnson, a former 2,000-yard back with the Titans, put together a disappointing season in 2014, rushing 155 times for 663 yards and a touchdown.

Johnson was arrested in January in Orlando when two semiautomatic handguns were found inside his car. He was charged with a misdemeanor, open carrying of firearms, and was later released on $250 bond.
