The Atlanta Falcons announced they have signed special teams standout Eric Weems to a contract extension, reported by ESPN to be for two years. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Weems, 30, led Atlanta with 11 special teams tackles last season and was named a Pro Bowl alternate. The reserve wide receiver also caught 10 passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns.

Weems originally signed with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent out of Bethune-Cookman in 2007. He spent five seasons with Atlanta before signing with the Chicago Bears in 2012. He rejoined the Falcons last August.

Weems is the sixth player to re-sign with the Falcons leading up to the start of free agency Tuesday. He joins kicker Matt Bryant, safety Charles Godfrey, fullback Patrick DiMarco, defensive lineman Cliff Matthews and linebacker Nate Stupar.
