OLB Johnson to retire as a Raven
Outside linebacker Jarret Johnson will sign a one-day contract this offseason to retire as a member of the Baltimore Ravens after a 12-year career in the NFL.
Johnson, 33, spent the past three years with the San Diego Chargers after nine seasons in Baltimore, which drafted him as a fourth-round pick in 2003.
Johnson played in a then franchise-record 129 straight games in Baltimore. The hard-nosed defender became a fan favorite as the Ravens’ ironman.
“Baltimore was home,” Johnson told the Ravens website Tuesday night.
Johnson officially announced his retirement from the NFL last week, and the Ravens plan to invite him to return to Baltimore this offseason to sign a ceremonial one-day contract.
“It would be an honor to retire a Raven,” Johnson said. “Even when we weren’t there, we were always pulling for them, always wanting the best for them, always wanting to see them succeed. It was always home.”
Johnson played in 197 games, including 143 starts. He had 713 career tackles, 27.5 sacks, 36 tackles for loss and three interceptions.
