Vikings flying to meet with Peterson

Published

on

Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer and general manager Rick Spielman are scheduled to fly to Houston on Wednesday to meet with running back Adrian Peterson about his future with the team, according to reports.

Zimmer and Spielman will try to convince Peterson, the 2012 league MVP, that he should remain with the Vikings after missing almost all of the past season while addressing child abuse charges in Texas.

The face-to-face meeting will be the first time since September that Peterson and Vikings officials sat down together.

Peterson was placed back on the commissioner’s exempt list last week after federal judge David Doty ordered the NFL to vacate his suspension over child-abuse charges. The NFL has appealed Doty’s decision.

Peterson, 29, has three years remaining on his contract. He is owed $12.75 million next season.

It’s not clear whether Peterson wants to return to the Vikings. His agent, Ben Dogra, had an altercation with chief contract negotiator Rob Brzezinski at the recent Scouting Combine in Indianapolis when Dogra reportedly told the Vikings that Peterson was done in Minneapolis. Reports had surfaced that Peterson was not fully comfortable returning to the team.

Peterson was first placed on the commissioner’s exempt list in September, when charges for child abuse were filed involving Peterson’s 4-year-old son. Peterson claimed he did not intend injury while disciplining the boy with a wooden switch.

Peterson avoided jail time pleading no contest to reckless assault on Nov. 4, and commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Peterson for the rest of the 2014 season for a violation of the personal conduct policy.
