Seahawks will add 1,000 seats to stadium
The Seattle Seahawks, who already boast one of the loudest crowds in all of sports, are about to get a little louder.
The Seahawks announced Monday that they will add 1,000 seats to CenturyLink Field in time for the 2015 preseason. The expansion of the 67,000-seat stadium will be funded by the Seahawks.
The stadium and adjoining event center were built for $430 million in 2002, with the public funding $300 million and owner Paul Allen paying the rest.
The extra seats will be installed in two new sections the south upper concourse in a new area the team will call the Toyota Fan Deck, as part of an agreement with the car maker.
“The Toyota Fan Deck will give the 12s an enhanced game-day experience while allowing us to accommodate some of the growing demand for tickets,” said Seahawks president Peter McLoughlin, who told Q13 FOX that the team also will add eight new suites.
Current season-ticket holders will have priority to relocate to the new sections, and available seats will be opened up to those on the waiting list, which has 12,000 people.
The Seahawks say the fan deck will present a “club-like atmosphere,” with televisions, a fireplace and concession stands. The team also said it will build a new 12 Flag Pavilion. The flag, which honors the fans, is raised by a Seattle sports dignitary before every game.
