INDIANAPOLIS — It appears increasingly likely that Trent Richardson has played his final down for the Indianapolis Colts.

Asked twice about the embattled running back at the Scouting Combine on Thursday, Colts general manager Ryan Grigson declined to specifically address Richardson’s future with the team.

“Those are team decisions and we’ll have those in house. We’ll look at everything,” was as close to an answer as could be pressed out of Grigson.

Richardson was suspended two games by the team before the AFC Championship Game loss to the New England Patriots due to failure to communicate with the team. He cited a family emergency, which was related to his girlfriend facing potential complications with her pregnancy, according to the Indianapolis Star.

One game remains on Richardson’s suspension — if he is still with Indianapolis next season. Due to a clause in his contract, the team could decide to let him go and void $3.1 million in guarantees, though that likely would lead to a labor grievance, the Star reported.

Richardson, 24, was acquired from the Cleveland Browns for a first-round pick in 2013. In 29 games with Indianapolis, he has 977 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 316 carries (3.1-yard average). He played 17 games over two seasons with the Browns, amassing 1,055 yards and 11 touchdowns on 298 carries (3.5-yard average).

–Grigson reiterated that he contacted the league the week leading up to the AFC title game regarding “our concerns” about the Patriots’ game-day footballs being inflated properly. Like everyone else, he is awaiting the result of the Ted Wells investigation.

“Hopefully everything will come out and everyone will have a clear look at the situation,” Grigson said. “We had concerns, just like any general manager would want to do … would want to make sure their team is playing on a level field. I just did my job, and here we are.”

“If rules were broken, we’ll see. If not, that’s what the investigation is about.”
