Seahawks LB Irvin ejected for instigating brawl

With 18 seconds left to play in the New England Patriots’ 28-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX on Sunday, the NFL’s signature game had its first-ever ejection.

Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin was ejected for inciting a brawl between the teams as the Patriots were running out the clock. Following a late interception thrown by Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, the Patriots took over at their 1-yard line. After Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett jumped over the line before the snap, the Patriots moved up five yards, effectively ending the game.

Quarterback Tom Brady took a knee, and a shoving match escalated between several players, with game officials tossing Irvin after naming him the instigator.
