Hurricanes QB Olsen suspended following DUI arrest
University of Miami quarterback Kevin Olsen was suspended indefinitely after being charged with driving under the influence and possessing a stolen/fictitious driver’s license.
The redshirt freshman was arrested early Monday morning and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County at 4:11 a.m., per The Miami Herald. Bail was set for $6,000.
Olsen, the younger brother of Carolina Panthers tight end and former Hurricanes star Greg Olsen, was suspended for the team’s 2013 bowl game and the first two games of this season for a violation of team rules – reported to be for a failed drug test. That prevented him for competing for the starting job after Ryan Williams suffered a knee injury during the spring, and Kevin Olsen was fourth on the quarterback depth chart last week.
Coach Al Golden had praised Olsen last week for paying for “his sins of awhile back.” Now it is uncertain if the 19 year old former four-star recruit has any future with the program.
True freshman Brad Kaaya has been starting in Williams’ absence after being out fifth-year transfer Jake Heaps.
