Future undecided for Colts’ Wayne, Redding

Published

INDIANAPOLIS — The futures of wide receiver Reggie Wayne and defensive end Cory Redding remain up in the air now that the 2014 season is over.

Wayne was targeted twice against New England but did not catch a pass in the game. He played most of the 2014 season with an elbow injury and a torn muscle near the elbow.

The veteran will have to undergo surgery during the offseason to take care of the torn muscle. His status for the 2015 season has not been determined. Wayne’s contract expires March 10.

“One thing, I don’t have a plan. I never had one. Just got to make a couple phone calls, say a couple of prayers and see which route the good Lord sends me,” he said.

Colts coach Chuck Pagano says he would not be shocked to see Wayne back next season.

“You guys know the way Reggie’s wired. You know his work ethic. You know his mindset. Would I be shocked? No. We just take things one day at a time,” Pagano said.

Redding has not made a decision whether he will be returning for the 2015 season. Redding, who is 34, has hinted during the season that this year might have been his last in the NFL. He plans to get away for a few weeks with family and then sit down with team officials before making a final decision.

“Right now, it’s still too soon, still too soon. There’s a lot of emotion still flying around, so I’m going to really let this time have its moment and get away,” Redding explained. “Then regroup, come back and have my talks with who I need to have my talks with whether to keep pressing on or walk away. We’ll see.”
