College football roundup: Oklahoma RB Ford out 2-3 weeks
Oklahoma running back Keith Ford is expected to miss 2-3 weeks with a slight fracture in his foot suffered during Saturday’s victory over Tennessee, coach Bob Stoops said Monday.
Ford will miss Saturday’s road game at West Virginia, but has a chance to return following the team’s bye week and in time for an Oct. 4 game against TCU.
Ford is Oklahoma’s leading rusher with 197 yards to go with five touchdowns. He also has six receptions for 100 yards and another touchdown.
—Arizona State quarterback Taylor Kelly, who injured his foot in Saturday’s 38-24 win at Colorado, will miss the Sept. 25 game against UCLA, CBSSports.com reported.
Kelly also could miss the Oct. 4 game at USC but is expected back for the Oct. 18 game against Stanford at the latest, the CBS source said. The Bruins do not play this week.
The Sun Devils will likely start junior Mike Bercovici in Kelly’s absence.
— Rutgers University officials apologized for what the school’s athletic director called “inappropriate and offensive” behavior by some Rutgers fans during Saturday’s game against Penn State.
Much of that behavior was related to the Jerry Sandusky child sex-abuse scandal that rocked the Nittany Lions program. T-shirts with “Ped State” on them reportedly were being sold outside High Point Solutions Stadium mocking the former Penn State assistant coach. Chants of “Sandusky” during the game were especially troubling.
Other instances of fans trying to make light of child sex abuse were reported.
—Alabama head coach Nick Saban said there is a good change injured wide receiver DeAndrew White will return to action for this week’s game against Florida.
White suffered a “little shoulder separation” in the Crimson Tide’s Week 1 win over West Virginia and missed the past two games.
Another starter, safety Jarrick Williams, might also see some playing time after sitting out the past two games with a broken foot.
—University of Miami quarterback Kevin Olsen was suspended indefinitely after being charged with driving under the influence and possessing a stolen/fictitious driver’s license, a felony.
Olsen, a redshirt freshman and the younger brother of Carolina Panthers tight end and former Hurricanes star Greg Olsen, was suspended for the team’s 2013 bowl game and the first two games of this season for a violation of team rules.
