Report: Kiffin front-runner for 49ers offensive coordinator
Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin is considered a front-runner to become the San Francisco 49ers’ offensive coordinator, ESPN.com reported Sunday.
Indianapolis Colts special assistant to the head coach Rob Chudzinski is also a candidate for the 49ers job under new head coach Jim Tomsula.
Kiffin said last month he would “definitely” return to Alabama next season after completing his first season with the Crimson Tide. Kiffin would be working with a new starting quarterback if he returned to Alabama for the 2015 season.
With the 49ers he would be working with Colin Kaepernick, whose 2014 season was considered a disappointment.
Kiffin is the former head coach of USC, Tennessee and the Oakland Raiders.
He was fired as the Raiders’ head coach in 2008, and he has worked on the college level since then.
Chudzinski’s Colts are still involved in the playoffs, and the 49ers could not hire him until the Colts lose. If the Colts win Sunday’s game, the 49ers may not want to wait any longer to name an offensive coordinator.
Mike Shanahan is the other name that has been mentioned as a possible offensive coordinator for the 49ers.
