NFL to conduct five regional combines
The NFL announced Friday it will conduct five regional combines beginning on Feb. 7 in Miami and concluding with the 2015 Super Regional Combine on March 21 at the Arizona Cardinals’ practice facility in Tempe, Ariz.
“Combines have long provided draft-eligible players with the forum needed to showcase their skills to NFL teams,” director for football development Matt Birk said in a statement. “I know how important participating in combines was for my NFL career. It is our job at the NFL to provide this opportunity to any college football player that wants to chase his dream of playing in the NFL.”
The regional combines will be conducted specifically for position players eligible for the 2015 NFL Draft. The regionals are only open to players who played college football during the 2014 season.
Regional combines will be hosted at NFL facilities. Players will be tested and evaluated by NFL scouting personnel. Measurements, combine results and videos will be compiled and entered into a database available to all 32 NFL clubs.
Standouts at regional combines will be invited to attend the NFL Super Regional Combine. At the Super Regional, players will have an additional opportunity to work out and showcase their talents in front of current NFL team scouts and player personnel directors.
The 2015 regional combines schedule:
–February 7, Miami, Doctors Hospital Training Facility.
–February 14, Houston, Methodist Training Center.
–February 21, Denver, Paul D. Bowlen Memorial Broncos Center.
–February 28, Baltimore, Under Armour Performance Center.
–March 7, Chicago, Halas Hall at Conway Park.
On Thursday, the league announced it also will host a separate combine for NFL veterans on March 22 at the Cardinals’ practice facility.
Birk informed all 32 teams that the veterans combine will be open to free agents and will include drills, timing and tests similar to the annual NFL combine for draft-eligible players.
The veterans combine will take place one day before a league owners meeting in the Phoenix area. About 100 free agents are expected to receive invitations. The NFL’s free agency market opens March 10.
