Colts’ Wayne, Hasselbeck lean toward return
Longtime Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne and veteran backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck both expect to play again next season.
The 36-year-old Wayne said Wednesday that at this point he plans to be back for a 15th year in 2015.
“If I had to answer that question right now, (the answer) would be ‘I will be back,'” Wayne said on WNDE Indianapolis. “If the Colts want me. Because I’m not playing for nobody else.”
Wayne faces offseason surgery on a torn triceps and also has been hampered by knee, elbow and groin injuries season. He has 64 catches for 779 yards and two touchdowns in 15 games this season.
“They may want to go in another direction. Who knows?” Wayne said. “They’re always looking to replace you each year. That’s been my motto since 2001.”
The 39-year-old Hasselbeck hopes to play a 17th season. His two-year contract with the Colts ends in March and the subject of returning to the team has yet to be discussed.
“We haven’t talked about (retirement) or thought about it, really,” Hasselbeck said, according to The Indianapolis Star. “We would almost have to have the talk if I was considering being done. But I’m not really considering being done.”
