History does not favor the Seattle Seahawks repeating as Super Bowl Champions
NFL Fun Stats is put together to provide a wide range of number-oriented morsels for those who crave the delicacy and geek-dom of NFL statistics, news and notes. If you’re not quoting one note each week, I’m not doing my job. Here are your water cooler nuggets.

- Detroit Lions players were not born the last time the team won a playoff game back on January 12, 1991 against the Dallas Cowboys. The list of unborn players at the time includes Eric Ebron, Cornelius Lucas, Caraun Reid, Theo Riddick, Darius Slay, Travis Swanson, Kyle Van Noy and Larry Warford.

- Straight wins the Kansas City Chiefs opened the 2013 season with. Since that time they are 11-12 in their last 23 regular season games. They did manage to go 9-7 this season (missing the playoffs), but are a distant memory of their dominant form shown at the beginning of the year in 2013.

- Was the record of the Pittsburgh Steelers after eight games in 2013. Since then the are 17-7 and winners of the AFC North for a record sixth time since the division was realigned to four teams in 2002.

- Teams from last years AFC playoff field failed to make it back to the playoffs in 2014. The two teams not to return are the Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers.

- Teams from last years NFC playoff field failed to make it back to the playoffs in 2014. The three teams unable to qualify again were the San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles.

- Of the 12 divisions in the NFL have repeat winners from 2013-14. The list includes three repeat winners in both the AFC and NFC. The AFC has the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, and Denver Broncos. The NFC side features the Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers and Carolina Panthers.

- Consecutive playoff appearances is the longest active streak in the NFL. The two teams that hold claim to the prestigious mark are the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers. The last time either team has missed the post-season was in 2008.

- Teams over the last five years have failed to make the playoffs. The list of under achievers includes the Buffalo Bills (AFC), Cleveland Browns (AFC), Jacksonville Jaguars (AFC), Miami Dolphins (AFC), Oakland Raiders (AFC), St. Louis Rams (NFC), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (NFC) and Tennessee Titans (AFC).

- Times since 2009 has the team with the best record in both the AFC and NFC met in the Super Bowl. In 2009, the New Orleans Saints (13-3) defeated the Indianapolis Colts (14-2) 31-17. Last year the Seattle Seahawks (13-3) demolished the Denver Broncos (13-3) 43-8 in the NFL’s final game. Those No. 1 vs. No. 1 match-ups resulted in the NFC being victorious. If that trend continues, Seattle will defeat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX.

- Super Bowls have been won by the New England Patriots over the last 13 years. Each win has been against the top seeded opponent from the NFC. The two Super Bowls lost by New England came from the New York Giants and each time they were not the top seed in the NFC. The Dallas Cowboys were the top seed in 2007 and the Green Bay Packers were the top seed in 2011.

- Top-seeded teams since the year 2000 from the NFC have won the Super Bowl. The New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks are the two teams to accomplish the task.
