Packers QB Rodgers helped off after TD

Published

on

GREEN BAY, Wisc. — Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers hopped to avoid pressure from the Detroit Lions and collapsed to the Lambeau Field turf as he completed a touchdown pass that put Green Bay on top 14-0 with 2:24 remaining in the second quarter.

A sullen Rodgers left the field in the passenger seat of a motorized cart as backup Matt Flynn took warmup tosses in front of the Packers’ bench. Green Bay’s playoff spot is certain, but where the Packers fall into the overall bracket depends on their game plus the outcome of the Seattle Seahawks-St. Louis Rams game.

Rodgers grabbed for the back of his left leg on the play, which came three plays after a surprising 13-yard scramble. He was unable to complete a practice this week and was listed as questionable on the injury report because of a calf strain. The FOX television crew said Rodgers was playing with a torn calf muscle.

Rodgers’ flipped the ball to the endzone where wide receiver Randall Cobb pulled it in for a 4-yard touchdown.

Because of concern over Rodgers’ calf injury, the Packers made No. 3 quarterback Scott Tolzein active for Sunday’s game.
