NFL Fun Stats – Week 17
Where did the high-octane Colts’ offense go?
NFL Fun Stats is put together to provide a wide range of number-oriented morsels for those who crave the delicacy and geek-dom of NFL statistics, news and notes. If you’re not quoting one note each week, I’m not doing my job. Here are your water cooler nuggets.
5
- Home losses recorded by the disappointing New Orleans Saints this season. It is the most home losses in a single season at the Superdome since 2007. The Saints were a perfect 8-0 at home last year.
1
- Rushing yard by the entire Indianapolis Colts offense in their 42-7 beat-down by the Dallas Cowboys. Three running backs carried the football for the Colts that included Dan Herron (seven carries three yards), Trent Richardson (two carries for one yard), and Zurlon Tipton (one carry for minus three yards). The final result is one yard on ten carries.

- Is the amount of rushing yards New York Jets running back Chris Johnson will need in the final game of 2014 to continue his streak of consecutive 1,000 yard rushing seasons. Since Johnson has entered the league in 2008 he has never dipped below a grand rushing. If his streak is to continue he’ll need to break the all-time single game record of 296 held by Adrian Peterson.

- Rushing yards by Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller in his much-anticipated return from injury. He carried the football four times and did not gain a single yard. He finished the day at minus four….Which is not bad if you are a golfer.
12
- Games have passed since New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham has eclipsed 100-yards receiving. Over his last 21 games Graham has reached the century mark just twice. Prior to that time Graham had five games over 100-yards receiving in nine games.
0
- Catches by San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis against the Seattle Seahawks. Davis did catch a 63-yard touchdown pass and powered his way into the end zone, but the play was nullified by an offensive penalty by San Francisco. Second-year Houston Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins had more receiving yards in one game (238) this season than Davis has had all season reaching only 236.
0
- Games missed by the NFL’s leading rusher DeMarco Murray. If you read this column regularly then you know that Murray has never played an entire 16 game schedule in his four professional seasons. The recent surgery on his hand put that streak in jeopardy against the Indianapolis Colts this past weekend, but Murray suited up and carried the football 22 times for 58 yards and one touchdown. It appears Murray will indeed play his first full NFL schedule when Dallas heads to Washington this Sunday.
4
- Touchdown passes caught by Minnesota Vikings receiver Greg Jennings over the last five games. Needless to say it appears rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has found a red zone threat on offense.
1,458
- Rushing yards were amassed on 471 carries by offensive players in Week 16 that ended with zero touchdowns. Washington Redskins fullback Darrel Young carried the football just twice against the Philadelphia Eagles helping them win 27-24. His two rushes for two yards resulted in two touchdowns.
49
- Points have been scored by the Indianapolis Colts in their last three games. Prior to that they scored 49 points alone against the Washington Redskins. The offense is out of sorts at the moment with one game remaining on the regular season schedule. Their recent 42-7 defeat at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys is the lowest amount of points scored by the team since Andrew Luck became the starter in 2012.
