Browns make roster moves, place Manziel on IR
The Cleveland Browns made a number of roster moves Wednesday and officially placed rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.
The Browns signed long snapper Charley Hughlett to the active roster from the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad and activated defensive lineman John Hughes (knee) from injured reserve-designated for return.
The team also placed defensive lineman Ishmaa’ily Kitchen (leg) on injured reserve.
Manziel sustained a hamstring injury in the second quarter during last Sunday’s 17-13 loss to the Carolina Panthers. He started two games this season and completed 18 of 35 passes for 175 yards and added nine rushes for 29 yards.
The 6-foot-4, 248-pound Hughlett is officially in his first NFL season. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by Dallas in 2012, Hughlett has spent time with the Cowboys, New England Patriots, Jacksonville Jaguars, Browns and Kansas City Chiefs. Earlier this season, he spent Week 5 on the Browns’ practice squad.
Hughes sustained an injury to his MCL against the Oakland Raiders on Oct. 26 and was placed on injured reserve-designated for return on Oct. 27. He has appeared in four games with two starts and registered 10 tackles and one pass defensed this season.
Kitchen suffered a leg injury in the fourth quarter at Carolina. He appeared in 12 games with three starts and registered 43 tackles.
