Report: Hoyer’s days with Browns numbered

Published

on

Cleveland Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer is likely playing his final games with the team, according to ESPN.

League sources told ESPN that Hoyer will not be with the Browns after the season unless the team makes the playoffs. He can become a free agent when the season ends.

Hoyer was benched last week in favor of rookie Johnny Manziel but got his job back, despite his recent struggles.

If Hoyer decides on free agency, teams including the Houston Texans are reportedly expected to be interested in him.

The Browns are 7-5 entering Sunday with Hoyer starting every game. Hoyer made Sunday’s start but the team could turn to Manziel at some point — especially if the team falls out of the playoff hunt.

Manziel gave Cleveland a spark off the bench last week against the Buffalo Bills by running for a touchdown on his first drive. However, the Browns lost to the Bills and coach Mike Pettine later announced that Hoyer would continue to start.

Hoyer, 29, threw for 3,056 yards with 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in his first 12 games this season. However, he had no TDs and five interceptions in the last two games.
